86 kilometers of trails and footpaths for walking and hiking wind their ways through the picturesque mountain scenery and offer stunning views and a hands-on nature experience. The Altmünster-Gmundnerberg loop trail, for instance, is packed with natural gems and quaint mountain restaurants. Have a lunch stop at the Gmundnerberghaus to enjoy cheese dumplings served in a bowl of bouillon or homemade strudel specialties.
Another highlight is the Aurachtal cycling trail starting right on the lakeshore. Altmünster is also home to several equestrian centers and bridleways, including the Panoramareitweg Höllengebirge –Traunsee renowned for its gorgeous scenery and the availability of resting places and food stops for riders and their horses.
Take a step back in time and learn more about the early days of mobility at the Museum of Vintage Cars and Bicycles. Looking for a special souvenir? – Dress up in historic clothes and have a picture taken with one of the cars on display. The Salzkammergut Tierweltmuseum showcases chamois, badgers, antelopes, rhinos, tigers and is highly popular among families.
