Summer vacation: Grünbach

Grünbach (580m - 920m) is located 4km north-east of Freistadt, the region´s capital.

The small borough of Grünbach with its nine hamlets is beautifully set amid hills and makes for great hiking, cycling and swimming. Its gentle undulating landscape pleases the eye and soothes the soul. The hilltop forests are recreational areas and serve as water catchments for the area. A worthwhile sight is St. Michael mountain church from where you enjoy sweeping views of the scenic Mühlviertel.

Grünbach - a Hikers' Paradise

The area offers a wide choice of hiking trails allowing you to explore Grünbach’s nature and history.

Walk past old farming estates and through charming little villages, pad across soft forest floors and stroll along murmuring brooks … wherever you go you will come across beautiful wayside shrines and small memorials inviting you to take a break and contemplate. Popular hikes include the Grünbach Loop and the Panorama Trail which lead to secluded spots of great natural beauty. The new Planet Trail “From the Sun to Pluto” takes you from Freistadt through Grünbacher to Sandl.
