Hausbrunn is located in a small valley cut north west of Hohenau. First mentioned in 1195, it became a market municipality in 1716. The 241m high Schirmberg is the highest elevation in this region. In the year 1784 it has been established as a proper parish. In 1807 Gottfried v. Preyer, who later became band-master of St. Stephan´s Cathedral in Vienna, was born in Hausbrunn.
