The Tirolean Herbal Village in Allgäu
“A piece of Tirol in Allgäu” – this is what the locals say about their hometown Jungholz. The Tirolean municipality is located on a sunny plateau surrounded by Bavarian fir trees. The Austrian exclave is only connected to Austrian territory at the border section at Sorgschrofen-Berg. The place is a small but nice winter sports area. Holidays in Jungholz guarantee happy moments amid snow – especially for families: There are easy as well as intermediate slopes, four T-bar lifts and two child-safe chairlifts which take young and old skiing fans to the top of the mountain. In summer, the village smells of wild herbs – Jungholz is still today the only “Tirolean Herbal Village” and therefore definitely worth visiting.
Tirolean Summer in the Herbal Village
Most guests choose a hotel for their holiday in Jungholz, however, the many small guesthouses and campsites are also very attractive as they ensure holiday experiences where you are particularly close to the nature. The herbal market also promises a unique nature experience – it takes place at the beginning of August every year: herbal educators, craftsmen and interested people meet in sunny weather at the lively open-air market place to present and try nice and delicious highlights for every taste. The mountain village of Jungholz is still the only “Tirolean Herbal Village”, which means that wild herbs grown in numerous gardens. And there is a lot more to do in summer: The rock pool, the alphorn concerts and lake Haldensee at 1124 meters above sea level are good reasons for an excursion – as well as the majestic mountains in the Tannheimertal valley.
