There is no doubt: people here are fond of merry-making and friendly company! Kefermarkt is also a great place to sample homemade foods such as artisan goat cheese and fresh farm butter. But we in Kefermarkt also know that there is more to life than celebrating and therefore we offer a choice of wellness treatments including “grain wading” and “beer bathing”.
Strap on snowshoes and discover a whole new world of white! Take a walk along the Palaces & Castles Trail, the Andreas Reischek Trail ,the Pendulum Trail or just cross-country and experience the region’s scenic beauty up close!
Watch snow flakes fall from the sky, hear the snow crunch under your feet, discover animal tracks in the snow, watch the snow sparkle on the Mühlviertel’s gently rolling hills …
Kefermarkt offers 5 kilometers of groomed cross-country tracks along the Feldaist River . On bad-weather days you can stop by the Castle Brewery to sample tasty unfiltered beer, visit Schloss Weinberg with its splendid halls or the parish church with its famous late-gothic altar which is carved from linden wood and over 500 years old.
Other popular excursions include the Klamm Mill – which boasts its own little hydroelectric power plant – where grains are milled into good flour and baked into good bread of diverse sorts including rolls, white breads of all kinds and healthy whole-wheat breads. Then there is the Candle Atelier which features unique wax crafts, and there is …. Boredom is virtually unknown in Kefermarkt: there is always something to see, do or keep you occupied. You only have to want it!
Wonderful crafts, demo workshops, Christmassy concerts, readings and the scent of baked apples, punch and gingerbread wafting through the air await you on the 2nd weekend of December at Schloss Weinberg (Friday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm). About 150 exhibitors present artisan craftswork. Visitors can even watch some of the artisans at work: quail embroiderers, glass blowers, weavers, goldsmiths, etc. Rittersaal hosts hourly concerts and/or readings which will get you into the right mood for Advent. Traditional wind renditions of old Christmas carols are given at the castle’s pond and the tower. For toddlers there is a kindergarten where they can have fun and romp about.
And once the Christmas holidays are over and the days are growing longer again, it’s time for the next great event at Schloss Weinberg: the Easter exhibition on rural handicrafts. This 2-day exhibition is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm on both days. Childcare is offered during exhibition times. The next Easter exhibition takes is held on the weekend of 21st March 2009.
