This lovely area was settled during the Hallstatt period. The apse of the ancient parish church, built around 400 AD, is still preserved. From the early 16th century until the 19th century Micheldorf was a renowned scythe production center. Visit the local Scythe Museum and get to know everything about the town´s thriving scythe industry.
Among Micheldorf´s most precious possessions are Georgenberg Hill and Altpernstein Castle, dating back to the 11th century. The castle features some outstanding dungeons and a Baroque-style chapel with the famous "Pernstein Madonna". Enjoy the great view of the surrounding areas and towns!
Every four years the traditional Georgiritt Festival takes place, a parade of lovingly decorated horses and horsemen from the town center to the Georgenberg hill and its picturesque wedding chapel. Prehistoric excavations can be found there, too.
