The borough of Oberneukirchen comprises the towns of Oberneukirchen, Waxenberg and Traberg, and is the center of “TRAUMgegend.hoch³” in Upper Austria’s Mühlviertel, about half an hour’s drive from Linz. The towns are beautifully set on gently rolling hills above the fog line, between 571 and 868 meters above sea level.
On the main square is an old linden tree with a stone table on which in the old days coins were tested for authenticity. The beautiful church is well worth a visit and there is as Memorial Room dedicated to Hans Schnopfhagen, the composer of Upper Austria’s anthem.
Located 3 kilometers from Oberneukirchen is Waxenberg with its magnificent castle and ruins. A visit to the castle’s splendid baroque chapel is a must for all culture lovers. For the best views of the beautiful countryside head to the castle tower which today serves as vantage point. The town is a true haven for guests in search peace and quiet.
The charming town of Traberg is in a beautiful hillside location north of Oberneukirchen and offers relaxation away from the hectic pace of everyday life. The old weaving town has some nice restaurants and inns, and great activities for all ages and seasons. Traberg makes a great base for beautiful hikes and excursions.

Nordic skiers will find plenty of tracks to keep them entertained between Zwettl-Oberneukirchen-Waxenberg-Traberg-Ahorn; Oberneukirchen has one ski lift and is ideal for family skiing. The region is easily accessible and makes for a great winter break away from the big resorts.
