Obertauern is located at about 90 kilometers south of Salzburg, encircled by the majestic Hohe Tauern mountain massif and in close vicinity to the Radstädter Tauern Pass. With some 100 slope kilometers open from late November through early May, ski and snowboard lovers can indulge in the splendid winter wonderland offering ski trails for all ages and abilities – doorstep skiing included! Varied skiing terrain can be found within the whole region surrounding Obertauern, easily accessible right from your accommodation. No skibus needed for reaching the slopes! An absolute must for holiday makers in the fantastic Obertauern ski region is the "Tauern loop trail", a tour of the entire ski area in clockwise direction. Real experts and daredevils in need of a special challenge are strongly recommended to hit the "Gamsleiten 2" ski slope, one of Europe's steepest ski runs.
A true event highlight you shouldn't miss takes place in spring - the ultimate "Gamsleiten Kriterium" in Obertauern, a fun-filled and action-packed treasure hunting tour in the snow. 30 hidden treasure boxes incl. prizes are spread over the ski area. You can win a brand-new sports car if you find and open the right treasure box. Cross-country skiers can choose from 26 kilometers of well-groomed Nordic tracks, most of them in the Gnadenalm area which also features a splendid toboggan run. Additionally, the Obertauern Holiday Region boasts an infinite number of winter walking trails and marvelous snowshoe hiking tours, for example from Gnadenalm to Südwiener Hütte.
