Natural Biotopes

800th Anniversary of Peilstein The lovely market town is towering high above the Kleine Mühl valley, overlooking the scenic Bohemian Forest.

Peilstein and its immediate surroundings have become a truly unique nature treasure due to the 30 biotopes built during the last few years. Six of them are open to the public: Häuslin, Sausende Schlucht, Hofwiese, Hemmerau, Wäschbachl and Blumau. The marvelous nature preserve covers a total area of 20 hectares and boasts an infinite number of animals and flowers, among them the endangered and almost extinct Alpine newt.
