Holidays in Pillerseetal
Longing for a holiday in the Alps? – Go for one of the most beautiful valleys in the Province of Tirol: Pillerseetal! Located between the Kitzbühel Alps and the Loferer Steinberge mountain range, amid breathtaking gorges and lovely mountain lakes, Pillerseetal makes a fine destination for those who love walking and hiking, cycling and mountain biking, climbing and swimming. The valley was named after its most popular natural treasure: Lake Pillersee with its emerald waters is just perfect for a refreshing soak on a hot summer’s day! In winter the five Pillerseetal villages of Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Ulrich am Pillersee, Waidring and St. Jakob in Haus boast a reliable snow cover and offer outstanding skiing and cross-country skiing, as well as winter walking. With traditional fare and a friendly and laid-back atmosphere your winter break in Pillerseetal will be an experience to remember.
Swimming with a view of the mountains
At water temperatures of 17 to 20 °C a bath in Lake Pillersee is not for the faint-hearted. The emerald green lake is embedded in a landscape of outstanding natural charm in the foothills of the Kitzbühel Alps and the Loferer Steinberge mountain range. It makes a popular destination for the old and young especially on a hot summer’s day. And so does Lake Wildsee at the foot of Wildseeloder Mountain. Those who appreciate swimming in warmer waters will head for Badesee Waidring, a man-made lake with a beach volleyball court and children’s paddling pool.
However, the Pillersee Valley has a lot more to offer: There are innumerable hiking routes and educational trails to choose from, as well as 800 kilometers of mountain biking trails, climbing routes, nine golf courses, several tennis courts and equestrian centers. Summer highlights include the Tatzi Kids Club and activity program, “Tirassic Park” and Timok’s Coaster. The PillerseeTal Card comes with several benefits, including free child care at the Tatzi Club. Thanks to a wide range of events your holiday in Pillerseetal will be anything but boring. Do not miss out on the “Bummelnacht” in Fieberbrunn, “Indianernacht” and “Erlebnisnacht” in Waidring, and “Seeleuchten” at Lake Pillersee.
Skiing in the mountains of Tirol
When it comes to winter sports, Tirol, and the Kitzbühel Alps in particular, will make your heart beat faster. The entire area boasts a reliable snow cover, hundreds of kilometers of slopes, sunshine in abundance, quaint mountain lodges and friendly people, thus making the Pillersee Valley at the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps the perfect destination for a hassle-free and relaxed winter break. The Pillerseetal ski areas of Fieberbrunn, Buchensteinwand and Steinplatte offer immaculate ski runs, cutting-edge uphill facilities and breathtaking powder hills. With 43 kilometers of slopes Fieberbrunn is the largest ski area in the valley.
Lovers of Nordic skiing will find 150 kilometers of cross-country skiing tracks. In December every year Hochfilzen plays host to a Biathlon World Cup event. The picture-postcard winter wonderland lends itself to walking and nature exploration, as well as sledging adventures for families. The two-kilometer sledge track at Gasthof Oberweissbach in Waidring is illuminated until midnight!
