Seebenstein lies in the heart of the Pittental valley inmidst densely wooded, small mountains and hills, and is also called the "gem of the Pittental valley" on account of its well-protected location!
Seebenstein offers you numerous possibilities to go hiking through the natural park Seebenstein, where, along the "Hampel" path, a wood nature trail with many population pictures and show plates as well as benches to sit down for a rest and a refuge along the way. From there, a visit to the just recently built Hubertus chapel is recommended.
Due to its ideal location just an hour by speed train from Vienna, its proper station along the Aspang railway and its just as easy access via the A2 (southern highway, exit Seebenstein), Seebenstein is called "THE GEM OF THE PITTENTAL VALLEY".
This preferred name also comes from the old castle Seebenstein - first official mentioning in 1092. The castle, resisting the wars with the Turks, shows two building periods - 11th and 16th century. Proud and mighty it rises above the village, can be seen from afar and is dominating the Pittental valley. Today, the castle hosts an unparalleled art collection and has become a treasure for excellent art and lost knight's romance. Thus, the castle forms one of primary sights of the Pittental valley.
