St. Wolfgang

Holiday Paradise at Wolfgangsee

If we had to invent a perfectly romantic landscape, it would definitely look similar to Lake Wolfgangsee. The Austrian Emperor already enjoyed the picturesque surroundings for excursions when he stayed in the neighbouring city of Bad Ischl. However, St. Wolfgang became popular in the 1930ies with the White Horse Inn musical comedy and the hotel of the same name and its illustrious guests. The rest is history. The scenery has not changed much since then. The Schafberg mountain dominates the region around Lake Wolfgangsee and the White Horse Inn still exists. In the meantime, it has become a first-class 4-star hotel. Holidays at Lake Wolfgangsee means to experience the classic summer retreat in a new way. The combination of mountains and the lake amid beautiful nature is never out of style. In winter this place is a lot quieter but still offers plenty of possibilities such as skiing, cross-country skiing and winter walking tours.

Enjoy Winter in St. Wolfgang

Endless slopes and great après ski – this is what many skiing areas offer but winter holidays in St. Wolfgang are special due to its hidden treasures: Enjoy a walk through snow-covered woods with the snow scrunching underneath your feet or a horse-drawn sleigh ride along the shores of the frozen lake. The snow, the landscape and the sun are the basis for perfect moments of pleasure at Lake Wolfgangsee and images that are meant to last.

The ski areas at Lake Wolfgangsee guarantee true skiing pleasures without a great fuss. The high plateau of Postalm with its exercise lifts and easy slopes is made for family holidays. The Zwölferhorn in St. Gilgen is more demanding. Located directly at Lake Wolfgangsee, its white slopes shine all the way into the valley. When there is enough snow, Zwölferhorn is also a true free ride paradise.

Summer Holidays in St. Wolfgang

St. Wolfgang is located in a privileged place at the North end of Lake Wolfgangsee, at the foot of the Schafberg mountain. The historic Schafberg Railway climbs the 1100 meters in altitude to the top of the mountain in approx. 45 minutes. Once you reach nearly 1800 meters above sea level, you can enjoy memorable views. If you look down, you can see the numerous sailing boats and wind surfers on the lake. There are also plenty of people at the shores of the lake as it is the perfect place to relax after a swim.

However, some destinations at Lake Wolfgangsee can only be reached on foot or by bike. The mountain bike tour to the "Black Lake" is definitely one of the most rewarding destinations in this region. The lake is embedded between mountains and is also very popular among hikers. On foot and by bike – hungry sportsmen recharge their batteries directly at the lake at the "zur Lore" inn. A great place to rest and enjoy the fantastic panorama.
