Traunstein is situated on one of the most panoramic hills of Ottenschlag at 911 m above sea level. It is one of the most beautiful communities in the "stony" part of the Waldviertel. Visitors from near and far are attracted by the modern church and the lovely houses characterising this region. The market village of Traunstein was first mentioned in a document in the year 1580. However, there has been a constant settlement since the 8th century.
Among our highlights are sights as the Wachtstein, the Franzosenstein, the studio/sculpture centre of Dechant Josef Elter, and the modern church. There is a local, nation-wide culture, education and meeting centre for adults and teenagers, with all necessary rooms and a specialised library. Well-tended gastronomy operations care for you physical well-being.

Traunstein - A beautiful piece of the Waldviertel

Starting from the herbal garden in Traunstein, you can visit several herbal stops on a 7 km circle trail, have a chat with the herb ladies and taste herbal teas. Every year, a healing herbs and hiking week also takes place.

Would you like to do sports during your holidays as well? Then we can offer, among others, a bathing pond with diving board and a nearby beach volleyball ground, a tennis court and a soccer ground. This is just a mere selection of our sport offer.

For your entertainment, we offer the renowned "Wachtsteinfest", the "Countryfest" with many known artists and the "Mondscheinparty" for the young people.
