The new Beer Experience

Learn all about the legendary Starkenberger Beer.

skip The Brewery of Starkenberg Castle in Tarrenz opened the new Beer Experience in June 2005.

The brewery, which is 200 years old, was recently modernized, and the 700 year-old castle was revitalized.

The walls of the castle were restored, and some even older walls were freed. Some of the rooms were given back the functions they once had, and secret passages were re-discovered. This way a new path was established, which leads from above the castle all the way into dark cellars and forgotten vaults.
Today both the brewery and the castle are a theme world demonstrating the history of beer brewing from its early days until the present in an entertaining and exciting way.

See the brewery in full operation with the brewhouse from the 19th century with its copper dating from around 1900, the 16th-century ice cellar, and one of first cooling machines in the world, a proto type built in 1902.

The castle still features the original entrance from the 14th century, and also the Knights Hall, where the knights used to eat lying down, as they used to do in the old days. This historically important hall can accommodate up to 100 people. It can also be rented for special occasions, catering included.
The Starkenberg beer swimming pool is perhaps the only swimming pool in the world, where one can bathe in beer enriched with many vitamins.

The 19th-century chapel and the picturesque Starkenberg lake add to the unique experience of beer, castle, nature, tradition and modern age.

EUR 7 per adult
EUR 6 per pupil, student or national service person
Children 10 years and younger are free.
EUR 6 per person for groups of 15+ people without guide
EUR 8 per person for groups of 15+ people with guide (by prior arrangement only)
EUR 5 per person for Family Pass holders
