13 defence churches can be discovered by foot, bike or car!

skip Extensive church construction works started around 1500, in order to protect these stone buildings - the only ones at that time - from hostile attacks. The inhabitants of the Bucklige Welt protected their goods and possessions and, naturally, also their lives in the defence churches of Edlitz, Krumbach, Hochneukirchen, Bad Schönau, Kirchschlag, Lichtenegg, Hollenthon, Wiesmath, Hochwolkersdorf, Bromberg, Pitten, Ofenbach and Katzelsdorf.
