The typical wine of the Weinviertel region, the peppery, dry, aromatic Grüne Veltliner, proudly has "Weinviertel DAC" written on its etiquette.
The DAC stands for "Districtus Austriae Controllatus", which marks wines that can clearly be assigned to a special area.

The cellar lanes of the Weinviertel region aren't only characteristic for the landscape, but also for the relaxing lifestyle of the people living there.
The history of the "Villages without a chimney" began with the liberalisation of the winegrowing in the 18th century by the Empress Maria Theresia and her son Joseph II. Whole streets with press houses and cellar channels were arranged outside the villages - always in harmony with nature. Some of them still serve as place of production, storage room and for the nice tastings of the wines.
