Lilienfeld - PICTURES

The most densely wooded district of Austria is a paradise for all hikers!

As many as 75% of this area are covered with woods. Lilienfeld really deserves being called the green lungs on the doorstep of Vienna. In addition to 100 kilometers of excellent hiking paths you can also explore the 1,000 years of history! A chair-lift takes you up to the top of the 1,248 m high Muckenkogel mountain, from where you can enjoy magnificent views of the Danube and the Alps.
A landmark in the history of skiing!

Mathias Zdarsky is the father of the Alpine skiing technique, which he developed from a traditional technique in the years 1890 to 1896. On 19 March 1905 he organized the first ever ski race of this kind on the Muckenkogel mountain. Lilienfeld is a popular ski resort, only 24 km away from St.Pölten, the capital of Lower Austria, and an hour´s drive away from the metropolitan city of Vienna.
