The municipality has first officially been mentioned in 1184. Findings of the Bronze Age however show that the village´s history started a lot earlier. The hilly, loess-covered countryside is covered with vineyards and fertile fields. The wines of Schrattenberg are excellent. Today, the municipality is the most significant red wine area along the Brünner street. A wine grower´s cooperative offers quality wines since 1989 under the brand name "Schratt". All the way through the vineyards, woods and cellar lanes, marked walking and biking paths lead.
