Altenmarkt, in the southern Vienna woods, at the "Via Sacra" (the Holy Street), surrounded by forests and beautiful cultural landscapes. A popular excursion, cultural and hiking target. The main mountains are the Hocheck (1037m), the Schöpfl (893m), and the Peilstein-climbing mountain (716m).

Altenmarkt consists of five village parts:

NÖSTACH-HAFNERBERG with 2 defensive churches and the Baroque pilgrimage church.
ALTENMARKT the main village has got a renovated church.
IN THENNEBERG (Dornau), a pilgrimage church is located.
ST. CORONA (Heiligenbrunn) has got the the holy fountain and
KLEINMARIAZELL (Mariazell in the Vienna Wood) with its renovated monastery church is testimony to a great history.
