The wine harvest in the Wagram region
The wine harvest is pure life. A sensual, culinary and human celebration.
It means diving your hands into the overripe grapes whose juice runs over your fingers sweet as sugar. One laughs and tells. A happy joviality runs through the vineyards, despite the seriousness of the work.
Then someone calls: "Let´s make a break!" A simple snack is being brought, bacon, bread and cool wine.
Afterwards, work merrily keeps on going and the long rows of vineyards don´t seem so long any more.
Never, we are closer to the wine grower and his family than at the time of the wine harvest. It is as if belonging to the family, or just belonging. And we are never closer to the southern, mediterranean way of living than on days like that. The easiness of being, the happy, rewarding work of the wine harvest, makes every snack, every meal and every talk a celebration. Everyday life nowadays has made this merry way of living disappear more and more often. Yet on such special days, parts of it come back.
