4000 steps and Austria´s most demanding bike route - the MONTAFON Silvretta (wo)man
Results of 2008: www.silvrettawoman.at
On Saturday: 4000 steps of the Europe Staircase had to be conquered
On Sunday: mountain bikers started their trip to the Hillclimb Trail, leading from the Aquarena Swimming Baths (St. Gallenkirch/Galgenul) to the Alpe Nova.
Participation in just one event (hillclimb or staircase cup) was also possible.
4000 steps with a maximum gradient of 86% - a unique natural fitness trail - take you up to the Silvretta water reservoir with 700m of difference in altitude (the outstanding Münster Cathedral in Ulm/Germany has only 768 steps.) A truly unforgettably challenge for sports fans. Countless ski teams, soccer clubs and marathon experts do their training units here.
Check your record time on the spot and use the timing facilities at the start. It is recommended to take your heart rate meter with you or to rent one at the Gaschurn-Partenen tourist boards. Stop at one of the panoramic benches and enjoy the stunning view of the valley.
The mighty mountains of this valley have more bike potential than the Lago di Como and Lago di Garda areas together.
A handy guide comprising the complete network of bike trails is now available. The 30 trails (325km), featuring very kind of trail from common bike trails to more demanding routes, make every mountain biker´s heart beat faster. The guide, that was made in cooperation with the Montafon Mountain Bike Club, use the three color system employed for ski slopes. For each section the trail profile, the grounding and the length is given. This extensive guide is available at the Montafon tourist office.
