Spittelberg ist certainly the most popular area of Vienna's VII. district. It is only 400m from Ringstrasse street and in close proximity to MuseumsQuartier, and it is home to some of the city's finest shops and restaurants.
The history of Spittelberg dates back several centuries. Surrounded by Breite Gasse, Siebensterngasse, Sigmundgasse and Burggasse, it was then a quarter of taverns, game halls and handicraft workshops. In the 19th century the area went to rack and ruins. Only in the 1970s people recognized the potential of the Spittelberg area and had it carefully revitalized.
Spittelberg is home to a number of historic buildings, junk shops, antiques shops, galleries, taverns, inns and cafes. Spittelberg has once again turned into what it used to be a long time ago: An idyllic part of town with narrow yet romantic lanes and quiet backyards. A picture postcard image of Vienna!
