German - Slovak cook book

Danube recipes or: How do you cook with love?

Donauer Rezepte

How do you cook with love, phantasy and courage? This question has been asked by Silvia Pilková from Bratislava/Pressburg to the border triangle team Rosi Rahming and Brigitte Ertl. And the result is definitely worth seeing - or tasting. The new cook book 'Danube Recipes - How to cook with love' shows that two nations different in their mother tongue have something in common: the love for good meals.
Silvia Pilková, who enjoys cooking since her childhood, accompanies you from the first to the last recipe. Go on a culinary adventure journey with cabbage soup, Pressburg duck with wine, little 'Brimsen' dumplings with bacon, Bublanina, Grenadier marsh and Vienna pasties. The cookbook "Donauer Rezepte - Wie kocht man mit Liebe" (120 pages with illustrations) is available at a price of EUR 8,- excluding delivery fees.

Traces of a moving history

A culture tour. The Liechtenstein region is probably the most impressive example of transborder history and culture.

The original castle in Wilfersdorf is the starting point for a journey into the past, revealing the impressive history of the Liechtenstein dynasty. The newly renovated castle of Wilfersdorf features a permanent exhibition, where centuries of history of the ruling Liechtenstein dynasty, their roots in the Weinviertel region and the connections to the former Liechtenstein castles close to the border to the Czech Republic are presented. Temporary special exhibitions as well as the museum of local history offer a broad range of culture and exhibitions.

Journey into time

Mighty châteaux, castles, churches and civil mansions to both sides of the border are a witness to the original taste for art in this region.

Start your "Liechtenstein Time Journey" at the castle of Wilfersdorf. The newly designed exhibition shows you everything you need to know about 850 years of Liechtenstein rulers in the Weinviertel. On the large family board, you will get an impression of the size of the entire dynasty. Today, everybody whose last name is Liechtenstein comes from the Wilfersdorf family line.

The garden of Europe

The park region between Breclav/Lundenburg, the neo-Gothic castle Lednice/Eisgrub and the Baroque mansion of Valtice/Felsberg in South Moravia

The region of South Moravia is World Cultural and Natural Heritage of UNESCO. With its mighty castles, châteux and park areas, it deserves to be called the 'largest composed park landscape of Europe'.
The castle Eisgrub is a former summer residence and is intrinsically linked to the palm house. Built during the years of 1843-1845, it is the first of its kind on the European continent. Today, it hosts a rich collection of tropical and subtropical plants.
During the 14th century, the Liechtenstein dynasty gained the town Valtice/Feldberg. After becoming the ruling dynasty in the 17th century, the ruling prince of the Liechtenstein made the town his residence. The family only moved to the principality of Liechtenstein in 1938. The castle, a mighty early Baroque building, counts among the most impressive buildings of its kind in Moravia.

Traditional culture - Modern creativity

Unexpected treasures, that's what the museums of this region are. Almost every village owns one of them.

A unique experience is the milk chamber museum in Poysdorf-Ketzelsdorf, the first of its kind in Austria. Four original rooms of the Ketzelsdorfer milk production plant show the development from early primitive milking techniques to the modern milk industry. An attraction in its own is the museum milk cow, where everybody is invited to try milking.
Those who would like to know more about the distilleries are recommended to visit the nostalgic distillery trail of the family Heger.
Being a wine town, Poysdorf also offers you a large exhibition concerning viticulture in its local town museum. Additionally, there is a special exhibition about the "wine etiquette: between art and kitsch" in Reichensteinhof.

Historical soils

The range includes well-tended local village museums and findings from the distant past.

The Otto Berger museum in Bernhardsthal and in Wilfersdorf as well as the town museum of Poysdorf offer rich collections of ancient and early history, New Stone Age, folklore and witnesses of a moving history.
The topic "Life at and with the border" is featured by the Richard Simoncic museum in Rabensburg. There, you can see folklore items, furniture, textiles and pictures from the border triangle region.

Industrial progress - scurrility in everyday life

Of technical progress, cars, tractors and the search for "black gold".

The most impressive oil fields of Austria, in Neusiedl an der Zaya, offer you countless exhibits and picture boards to reveal the history of oil mining and the frantic search for the "black gold".
The museum in Poysdorf offers you a classic car show which pays a tribute to the technical development of cars, tractors and other vehicles.
The last resort for inclined visitors is the NONSEUM in the funny little village Herrnbaumgarten.

Culture at the ancient trade route

Since the old days, the Amber Route runs through the Eastern part of Lower Austria.

Not only peaceful traders travelled along the Amber route. The mighty castle ruins and fortified city walls give witness to a turbulent past.

Mighty splendour

Large castles, churches and civil mansions are a witness of the high esteem of culture, not only among the noble.

More than 30 museums, cultural initiatives and historical sites invite you for a visit!
They take you on a journey of the gold of the sea, the Amber route and the Amber room.

Inventions we do not need after all ...

The NONSEUM has a truly open and sincere mission:

NONSEUM NONSEUM Image Website

It has no use to anyone, but does this with a lot of love and care.

Nonsense arrives if something fails completely, but does not lack elegance in the process. Storm forward - and mark an own goal. Well at least it's a hit!

Mastery is needed. The happy wisdom of nonsense inventions provokes our everyday life: "Like this, it doesn't necessarily work better. But it's much more fun after all."

A museum with everything that makes non-sense,

with inventions no one needs, like for instance portable zebra crossings, nail brushes with proper nails or sleeping bags for bats.

Tumuli, local hills and vantage points

mark the image of this little region. A side trip to one or the other of these precious jewels is definitely worth it.

At the federal road B49, between Rabensburg and Bernhardsthal, the ancient hill tombs, so-called 'tumuli', lie. Take a walk and enjoy a boat tour at the largest landscape lake of the Weinviertel in Bernhardsthal, or enjoy exploring the mighty river woodlands to both sides of the Thaya river.

Lookout point Hutsaulberg and Wartberg

On sunny days, the "light point" at the Hutsaulberg offers you insights into what gave this region its name:

To the East, Slovakia, to the North, the Czech Republic and all around the hilly landscape of the border triangle country. At the southern slope of this inclination, Altlichtenwarth, one of the romantic little villages lies to which the north-eastern corner of Lower Austria owes its charme. Tradition and history melt with modern wine production. The recently renovated wine shop "Pforakeller", run by a group of young wine growers - the wine growing community "Silberfloh" - excellent quality wines from the local surroundings are offered.
By bike, on foot or by car - many routes lead up to the Wartberg vantage point in the vineyards of Großkrut. In 1911, a vantage point had been created. After necessary demolition, the year 2000 saw the creation of a new tower according to the plans of the original tower.

South Moravian cross Drasenhofen, Ruin Falkenstein

Next to our neighbouring countries, the sun is shining most of the time.

From the Schweinbarth hill with its famous Moravian cross to the north, the might castle of Nikolsburg/Mikulov rises, opening up the view into the southern region of the Moravian country, Slovakia or even down to the Schneeberg mountain in the South-West corner of Lower Austria.

Above the wine village Falkenstein, its ruin still towers as a distinguished witness from the past. It has been built in 1050 as a borderline wall. Opening hours: April 1 - October 31, Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays from 2.00 - 6.00 p.m., guided tours at 3.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m., or at other times after arrangement.

The border triangle is a gate to our neighbours

The historical, geographical and cultural similarity to both sides of the border cannot be denied.

Castle Lednice

The garden of Europe: Between Lundenburg/Breclav, the New Gothic castle in Eisgrub/Lednice and the Baroque mansion in Feldsberg/Valtice, a magic world of parks, gardens, ponds and woodlands lies, enhanced by many different monuments: little castles, chapels, colonnades, minarets and an artificial ruin. The people of Liechtenstein who owned the land property of Eisgrub, have created the most extensive cultural landscape of Europe here, which has righteously been recognised by UNESCO as one of the World's Heritage.

Nikolsburg/Mikulov

A walk through Nikolsburg/Mikulov can be started anywhere.

For example at the Schloss, which beyond any doubt is the most dominating feature of the city apart from the holy mountain (Svatỳ kopeèek), remembering the glorious days when Nikolsburg was practically the capital of Moravia. Until today, Nikolsburg is the capital of the wine, and not only because it gave its name to the region - wine growing region Nikolsburg - but probably also because the castle accommodates a unique winery museum including a huge barrel, of which the legend tells that an entire orchestra and their master have fitted in there.

Precious nature in a unique landscape

Unique all over Europe are the extensive river woodlands around Lundenburg/Breclav, covering the rivers courses of both March and Thaya.

Made up of a network of canals, old creeks and ponds, these woodlands are a unique landscape and been preserved under the list of the convention of Ramsar. The area is rich in bracket fungi who replace the dying biomass and thus contribute to maintaining a natural equilibrium.

Culture Tour!

The Liechtenstein region is probably the most impressive example for transborder history and culture.

The Liechtenstein dynasty with its centuries of tradition and history is the central transborder element of this cycling route, combining the Liechtenstein castles of Austria and South Moravia. The park landscape of Valtice/Feldsberg and Lednice/Eisgrub has been awarded World Cultural and Natural Heritage status by UNESCO. The protected area, whose architecture follows a changing plot of romanticism, classicism and empire style, embraces elements of both a cultural and a natural landscape. Discover the largest composed park landscape of Europe.
