Congress Centrum Alpbach

In 1997 an architecture competition for the planning of the new Congress Centrum Alpbach was launched in Tirol. From the 34 projects passed in the jury decided on the design of the Innsbruck architect´s office "din a4" (Conrad Messner, Markus Prackwieser, Andreas Scharmer, Othmar Zobl).

The new CONGRESS CENTRUM ALPBACH was completed within a construction phase of 222 days only. The helical-shaped gallery of glass walls shines like a crystal. A light shows down the free space in the centre. Embedded in the mountain, the construction meets the requirements of modern understanding of nature and energy consumption.

Concept

To counterpoint Alpbach´s scenic diversity a building was created with clear and simple structures.

The design of the seminar rooms provides a stimulating atmosphere and encourages the flow of conversation. The concept fulfils all requirements of the Alpbach convention organizing team - plenary assembly and working teams. Amenities include a plenary hall and five parallel rooms with state-of-the-art technology facilities. They foyers are designed to fulfil multi-purpose functions: as reception area, for coffee breaks and catering or for special exhibitions.

Bischofer Hut

Winter romance is created when tobogganing on the floodlit run by night from Bischofer Hut in Alpbach (4 km)

Walking time: approx. 1 hr; length: 4 km
From the farm Bischofen (book parking lot or hut taxi in advance)
MONDAY HOLIDAY, daily events like Almdisco, tobogganing and entertainment nights with music by Franz Kostenzer. Floodlit toboggan run from Bischoferjoch with serviced huts and snack stations (Hut with a view, Kumelkbar, Bischofer Hut) to the farmhouse of Bischofen.

Faulbaumgarten Hut

By daylight families have great fun tobogganing from Faulbaumgarten Hut across the Luegergraben ditch at Inneralpbach

Walking time: approx. 1.5 hrs; length: 4 km
Inneralpbach, left ditch > Luegergraben, over a small bridge to Faulbaumgarten Hut (attention: ban on driving from Hochberg). Service and previous reservation required!

Alpbach's unique architecture

The architecture of Alpbath is known across the borders of Austria.

On the initiative of Kommerzialrat Alfons Moser, mayor of Alpbach from 1945 to 1979, the local council passed the local building regulations and decreed that new buildings had to match the traditional Alpbach style.

The only exception is the Congress Centre in Alpbach...

...a master piece of design, ambiente, a functional and high class Conference technology. Significantly in keeping with the prticular Alpbach village scene, this building has been built into the mountain and designed with a spiral formed daylight cone. The view from the terrace to the village and surrounding area is quite unique.
