The origins of Schloss Wernberg can be traced back to the year 1227. Called 'Werdenberch' back then, the name stood for a castle that is "sweet and dear to everyone". Today, it hosts a monastery, which serves as a retreat for visitors coming from all over the world.

There is a lot to do and see in and around Wernberg, and the scenic landscape tempts to be explored by bike, on foot, or on the back of a horse. No matter if you head for the peaks in the Ossiacher Tauern mountain range or rather for a refreshing bath at Erlebnisbad Wernberg or in any of the nearby lakes - Wernberg has something to offer for everyone.

Thanks to its location in the foothills of the Ossiacher Tauern range, at the heart of the Carinthian lake district, the picturesque holiday resort of Wernberg offers unlimited opportunities for winter walks and winter sports. From early December the lovely lakes (Faaker See, Ossiacher See, Magdalenensee, Silbersee, Grünsee) are usually covered with a thick layer of ice, thus making a paradise for ice skating enthusiasts.

The region offers picture-postcard scenery wherever you go: thick forests, beautiful ponds and lakes, and a lovely Renaissance castle towering above it all.

The historic town center hosts a famous monastery, which is open to visitors from all over the world.
