Güssing Castle kept its romantic character of a ruin and can be called one of Austria´s most beautiful castles.
A wooden fortification was built as early as 1157 and in the 13th century an impressive rock castle replaced the wooden construction. In 1524 the castle was given to the Batthyánys who transformed the castle into a cultural center.
Today it is an ideal outing trip for families because it has something to offer for every age group. A special attraction is the ascent to the bell tower, opened only recently, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Pannonian lowland plains and the annual castle plays which take place in June/July in the castle yard.
