Summer and sports in Saalfelden-Leogang-Saalbach
In summer the charming mountain scenery lends itself to hiking and cycling. There is plenty of cyclable terrain for mountain biking enthusiasts of all ages and ambitions – from short and easy routes to challenging single trails and thrilling downhill courses. In addition, Leogang is home to Europe’s largest Bike Park at Asitz Mountain. The Leoganger Steinberge and Steinernes Meer mountains feature way-marked hiking trails, several via ferratas and more than 500 climbing routes for all levels of sport climbing and Alpine climbing.
With the special needs and interests of families in mind several themed walking and hiking routes were created in the area. Located next to Saalbach Hinterglemm, Asitz Mountain in Leogang, and the Berg der Sinne Experience in particular, make a popular destination for families, too. The Brandlhof and Urslautal 18-hole courses meet the requirements of golf enthusiasts – along with 15 other golf courses in a radius of 70 kilometers. Lake Ritzensee, Lake Zell and the public pools of Saalfelden and Leogang are perfect for a refreshing soak on a hot summer’s day. Nature and culture go together: For more than 35 years now Saalfelden has hosted the International Jazz Festival.
Saalfelden-Leogang-Saalbach: Winter in the Alps
Skicircus Leogang-Saalbach-Hinterglemm stands for 56 cutting-edge uphill facilities and more than 200 kilometers of wide and immaculately prepared slopes for skiers of all ages and ambitions, including gently rolling hills, wide carving slopes, black-labeled ski runs such as the Zwölferkogel World Cup track, terrain parks for snowboarders, untouched powder slopes and challenging moguls. The Leogang-Saalbach-Hinterglemm resort offers winter activities for virtually everyone. Illuminated sledge tracks make for an unparalleled winter experience off the slopes, by day and night.
In addition, Saalfelden-Leogang-Saalbach is a center of Nordic sports. 150 kilometers of tracks meet the needs of cross-country skiers. The Ritzensee area features some of the most challenging tracks, which are frequently used for training purposes by Austrian top athletes. Several tracks – also suitable for beginners – connect the Saalfelden-Leogang-Saalbach area with the neighboring communities of Maria Alm and Maishofen and the renowned Biathlon World Cup venue of Hochfilzen.
