Heading for Tirol’s glaciers
Located at the heart of the Pitztal Valley and the Kaunergrat Nature Reserve, the charming village of St. Leonhard makes a fabulous destination at any time of the year. It comprises several hamlets and has retained its authentic rural character and long-standing traditions up to the present day. Thanks to its favorable location – far from the madding crowds – it offers innumerable outdoor activities both in summer and winter. Do not miss out on one of the valley’s most precious gems: Lake Rifflsee, a crystal-clear mountain lake at an altitude of 2,200 meters, and the largest of its kind in the Ötztal Alps. Its surroundings are a secret tip among skiers (in winter) and hiking enthusiasts.
Crisp air, a breathtaking view of the mountains, and a picture postcard winter wonderland at your feet! With their permanent ice cover from 1,640 to 3,440 meters, the Pitztal mountains are precious gems of nature indeed – and highly popular among winter sports enthusiasts. The village of St. Leonhard is closest to the glacier and comprises not only the greater part of the valley, but also Wildspitze (3,774 m), Tirol’s highest peak – thus making a splendid destination for skiing enthusiasts. Thanks to a lift link to the Rifflsee ski area, outstanding skiing is guaranteed from September till late in spring – with 41 kilometers of pistes (all of them groomed to perfection), terrain parks and half-pipes to choose from. Have your tastebuds tickled by local fare served at numerous restaurants, and enjoy superb après ski on the mountain and in the resort.
