The historic village of Werfen is situated in the Salzburg region, embedded in a wild romantic mountain landscape between Hochkönig and Tennengebirge mountains.
Due to its central location in the Tennengebirge mountains numerous ski areas can be reached easily from Werfen.
Sports fans will find various facilities in Werfen. Marvellous winter hikes, ice skating, alpine curling and sledding as well as a modern shooting range are at your disposal.
In winter the longest downhill piste of the Eastern Alps (16 km) makes Werfen a paradise for fans of ski mountaineering. Traditional inns and knight´s meals, gourmet dinners - everything you could possibly desire - try the Restaurant Obauer which has won several prizes or one of the other inns here in Werfen.
Short ascents - long downhill glides
Werfen is the ideal starting point for your winter holiday.
The historic market town of Werfen is surrounded by the most beautiful ski areas. Within a radius of 25km you'll find more than 100 ski lifts and many cross-country skiing slopes. Only 12 minutes by car (8km) are the ski lifts of the Ski-Board-Arena Werfenweng, which can also be reached easily by ski shuttle bus. With only one ski pass you can enjoy borderless skiing in the Salzburger Sportwelt Amadé. 860km of slopes and 270 lifts invite to enjoyable skiing. You stay in the quiet and picturesque Werfen and reach the ski resort of the Skiverbund Amade the following way: Hochkönigs Winterreich in Mühlbach: 18km, Alpendorf Bergbahnen: 21km; Flachau: 30 km, Flachauwinkel: 35 km; Zauchensee: 37 km; Wagrain: 26 km; Großarl: 39 km; Schladming: 49 km; Bad Hofgastein: 46 km; Bad Gastein: 53 km; Dorfgastein: 38 km; Altenmarkt: 26 km. The glacier ski areas are within easy reach: Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn: 57km; Obertauern: 50km.
Exercise lift for beginners is the Zehenthof lift in Pfarrwerfen (2,5km away) - a 400m long T-bar lift.
