The Church Am Steinhof of St. Leopold

It was built between 1904-1907 and was one of the majorworks of the architect
Prof. Otto Wagner.

He was 63 when he built this first modern church which pointed church architecture into new directions.
THE FRONT of the church is covered with marble plates, 2 cm thick, from a quarry in Carrara.
THE TOWERS are crowned with two copper statues representing the patron saints of lower Austria, the St. Leopold and the Hl.Severin.
THE MOSAIC GLAS WINDOWS were designed and made bei Koloman Moser.
During the second world war the mosaic glass windows were removed and transported to Czechoslovakia, where they stored. In 1950 the windows were replaced as originally planned.
