The Mühlviertel is also known as the country of the famous author Adalbert Stifter and whoever reads his work can see that the romanticism he describes has its roots here.
The Horse Railway, the once first railway on the European continent, has been reactivated on a short stage near Kerschbaum. The weaving industry has a longstanding tradition in the Mühlviertel and about 20 weaving mills can still be found along the Mühlviertel Weaver´s Street.
