Since 1897, the Schneeberg, Lower Austria's highest mountain with a height of 2075 m, is served by a rack railway. It starts at Puchberg am Schneeberg and makes its narrow way into alpine regions. On its 9,5 km long drive, the small train passes 1218 meters in height difference. Hikers, train fans and people in for relaxation are fascinated by the unique combination of "train romanticism" and the alpine countryside.

Hike up and across the Schneeberg: A trip with the Schneeberg railway will bring you onto a height of 1800 m above sea level to mark your starting point. Continue over the Ochsenboden to the mountain peak and to the Fisher hut. For the descent, you can choose between Fadenstein or Schauerstein on the Faden. The double chair lift will bring you to Losenheim, from where the bus will take you back to the train station of Puchberg.

From the idyllic village part Losenheim, the journey starts with a ride of the 4-chair lift onto the Schneeberg. The healing climate is produced through the so called climate swings (Schneeberg railway and Chair lift). Enjoy!
In approx. 15 minutes, the lift brings you onto the "Faden". The mountain station is an ideal starting point for your hikes onto or over the highest mountain of Lower Austria.
Kids mountain world
An worthwile excursion target.
In the area of the mountain station Hoschschneeberg, in a height of 1795 m above sea level, the kids' mountain world is situated. The playground is 5000 m² large and awaits all the little ones. It is unique in the Eastern part of Austria. With support and advice of experts, the toys were produced to justify the name "kids' mountain world".
The mountain playground makes a drive with the Schneebergbahn attractive even for families with small children.
