Rattenberg was first mentioned in 1254, in 1393 it was granted the privileges of a town. It has a special flair as it is one of a few towns in Europe that have almost completely preserved their medieval part of town.
The glass production dates back to the 19th century. Some glass refiners settled near the Kramsach glassworks that already looked back on a 300 year tradition. Today a dozen of glass refining businesses make up Rattenberg´s reputation as Tirol´s glass town.

Thanks to the commited help of many it was possible to relocate 14 farm houses from all parts of Tirol to the museum and to integrate them into their new surroundings.
Traditional house-keeping, architecture, devices and fences tell of a way of life that´s almost forgotten now.
Visitors learn about work and life in former days. This lifestyle dominated life in our area for a long time.
This year again an attractive children program is organized in the summer time. Children from 6 to 12 years learn actively about farm work in the past.

A ride on the oldest steam rack railway in operation is a unique experience. The 7km long, impressive ride through the mountains leads from Jenbach to the Seespitz landing in 45 minutes. From there you can enjoy a boat trip across the Achensee lake.
