Salzburg owes its fame to the fact that Mozart was born here, and to its annual Festival Weeks.
Festung Hohensalzburg
In many ways the fortress is a high point of a visit to Salzburg. You can either walk up or take the funicular.
Salzburger Dom
Inside the vast baroque cathedral is the font where Mozart was baptized.
Schloss Hellbrunn
Beautiful Hellbrunn palace was built in the 17th century. In its grounds is the famous "Wasserspiele" section containing ingenious trick -fountains and water-powered figuers.
Schloss Mirabell
The attractive palace gardens were featured in "The Sound of Music". The palace boasts a magnificent marble staircase adorned with baroque sculptures.

Tauern Touristik GmbH takes visitors from the valley up to the high Alpine region, towards the giant walls of the hydro power plant which are accessible only via Lärchwand area. Here you find Europe's largest cable railway leading to the power plant where an interactive theme world awaits you. The multi-media exhibition focuses on electricity, ice and the Austrian energy industry. From the gallery visitors can take an insight into the power plant's machinery.
Right next to Mooserboden water reservoir you find a panorama restaurant proving stunning views and ultimate vistas of the Tauern mountain range.
The Krimml waterfalls are 380m high and are Austria's only natural landmark with European diploma. They are amongst the highest waterfalls in the world.
The waterfalls three different levels can be easily reached via a well-groomed hiking trail with observation platforms.
