Of course Tirol's highest mountain, Wildspitze, is in the Ötztal Alps. The rest of the region's inhabitants are often jealous because they do not live in Ötztal. The largest glacial area in the Eastern Alps is here, too. And the highest parish village in Austria? It's Obergurgl in Ötztal! We are lucky to live in this valley!
But there are more unique attractions still: The Stuibenfall waterfall, the highest one is Austria. Piburger lake, one of the warmest bathing lake in Tirol, and a natural jewel. Altogether, there are 250 3,000m peaks in our region, 60 of which are more than 3,400m high. Your stay here will have to be a personal record! It would be enough to lean back and relax and work out the figures. But there is so much to to in terms of leisure programmes and activities, that you'll always be left wanting more. The right atmosphere is guaranteed here, thanks to numerous festivals and traditional events. You'll feel welcome in the valley of Ötzi the Iceman, also called Frozen Fritz.
Ötztal Hiking!
Green alpine terrasses above tree-covered mountain sides, lovely meadows along the banks of the Ötztaler Ache river...
... wild mountain landscapes with a unique flora, and romantic lateral valleys continuing all the way into the high mountains... this is a hiker's paradise! But the Ötztal valley is just as perfect for those in search of adventure off the beaten track.
The best bit about Ötztal's vacation programmes is that there is great variety. There are deals for all budgets. Check out quiet alpine villages far removed from the tourist centres, or spend some time in the popular holiday villages and meet people! Good value for money guesthouses rub shoulders with luxurious designer hotels.
Wild canyoning in deep gorges, free climbing in steep walls, rafting in savage rivers or mountaineering in the glaciers are just some activities that will give you an adrenaline rush. If you are a mountain bike enthusiast, you will be glad to hear that there are numerous well-signposted trails.
