SPORTS & FUN IN THE OLYMPIC SKI WORLD OF INNSBRUCK

 A TREASURE TROVE OF ART
Don't just see, experience the treasures of this Alpine town up close. You will find architectural gems in the center, impressive works of art in imperial residences, churches and museums. Particularly valuable treasures: our majestic mountains and the unspoilt scenery, and the special atmosphere of a modern city with a long history that is very much alive.

 VARIETY & FLAIR

Coming to Innsbruck means getting the best of both worlds--the urban sophistication of a historic town and an Alpine playground. Innsbruck twice hosted the Olympic Winter Games. The 800-year-old town is renowned as a cultural center, and as a city of numerous art treasures and many historic structures. Innsbruck´s rich history is interwoven with that of the Habsburgs, whose wealth and sense of beauty left their mark: take the "Golden Roof", the "Black Men" bronze statues at the Court Church, the Imperial Court Palace and Ambras Castle.
Battlefield of fights for freedom and Olympic medals. Big town shopping opportunities coupled with a great range of hiking. Tirolean nights, brass band concerts and baroque operas, lederhosen and dinner jackets. University town and convention center.

 THE CITY & THE RIVER

The name of the city derives from the combination of brücke, (German for "bridge") and the name of the local river, the Inn. Innsbruck, the capital of the province of Tirol, is deeply steeped in history. The Habsburgs were very fond of Innsbruck and held court in the Alpine town. Important artists followed their call. As a result, Innsbruck boasts a rich cultural heritage. Plus there is a great range of premium sports facilities -- Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics twice. The Alpine town is a true paradise for sports enthusiasts, offering everything you could possibly desire for your most complete vacation - 365 days a year.

 ALPINE SCENERY & SPORTS

Make the unspilt nature of Tirol and its mountains the venue for your sports activities: stroll along well-groomed hiking tracks, conquer climbing trails -- anything´s possible. The alps offer something for everybody: hikers, mountaineers, climbers, paragliders, mountain bikers. And if the sport of your choice should be golf or tennis, you will find ample opportunities to play, with the Tirolean mountains as a marvellous background.

 SUMMER & FUN

Nowhere else will you find a hiking program with so many benefits -- free of charge. This is something we owe to our reputation as an Olympic city. If you want to stay on the ball, there´s tennis courts in beautiful settings, and 27 challenging holes for golfers. If you´re inclined toward unusual or extreme sports, you will find much to your liking, too: climbing tours, paragliding, rafting, summer skiing on the glacier. Innsbruck: a special city.

THE CITY & THE OLYMPIC SKIING WORLD

The Olympic Winter Games of 1964 and 1976 have shaped this city. The love of sport can be felt everywhere here, and there´s a correspondingly varied offer of venues and opportunities: from skiing to cross-country skiing and snowboarding, from ice skating to tobogganing, skeleton and tobogganing. There´s eight skiing regions, the Stubai glacier among them, with pistes located from 900 to 3200 meters above sea level: sunny pistes and powder snow from early winter until well into spring. Whether you want to experience winter sports events at their best or being active yourself -- Innsbruck has it all.

 THE WINTER EXPERIENCE

Snow, snow, snow! Year after year, it comes -- reliably: after all, we´re in the Tirolean mountains. And if it does not, Innsbruck provides snow guarantee and will take you to the best snow -- free of charge. Olympic quality standards...
Sports in Innsbruck has two dimensions: experiencing great sports events live and being active yourself.

 THE CASTLE & THE HABSBURGS

The Romantic Renaissance Castle in Ambras. The famous portrait gallery presents 500 years of Austrian and European history. There are works of old masters, including Titian, Lucas Cranach the Younger, Van Dyck, Rubens and Arcimboldo. 250 historic paintings, a mirror of the Habsburgs´ family and international politics. Culture needs a historical background, and it needs time to grow. In former times, culturally-minded emperors provided this background. Today, it is the culturally-minded visitors who contribute to preserve these treasures. Places rich in tradition, like Innsbruck, are the perfect places for the tradition of knowledge and for education, and Innsbruck has been a university town since 1669. Today, the Leopold-Franzens university attracts students from all over the world.

 CULTURE & EVENTS

Folk music and brass bands are but one part of the cultural program of this town in the Tirolean mountain. Highlights: the International Festival of Old Music, the Ambras Castle Concerts, the Dance Summer, the Organ Concerts, and the "Innsbruck Summer" cultural cycle.
