Each year, many visitors come to experience this exceptional annual ecclesiastical spectacle, held annually since the year 1632 on Traunsee Lake.
The festival of Corpus Christi celebrates the Eucharist as the body of Christ. The name 'Corpus Christi' is Latin for 'the body of Christ'.
This jubilant festival is celebrated by Roman Catholics to proclaim the truth of the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the actual body of Christ during Mass.
Following the Festive Mass at the Parish Church, the crowd leaves the church by 09:00am and parades to the lake to get aboard two ancient boats, known as "Fuhr". The Lake Procession was introduced in the village of Traunkirchen in the year 1632 by Jesuit priests. And is still celebrated the way they used to do centuries ago.
The fourth and last station of the procession is the War memorial where the lake will resound with a hymn by Ludwig van Beethoven.
