Amden is situated high above Lake Walen, and its southern exposition in the bosom of the mountains secures an ideal climate the whole year through, with many hours of sunshine and no mist.

Amden is a beautiful hiking area with 110 kilometres of signposted paths for easy or demanding tours. The top station of the Mattstock chairlift is a popular starting point for walks, mountain climbing and paragliding.

The Amden Museum shows a permanent exhibition on the history and ethnography of the region - a history that begins in pre-christian times with the first settlers.
