Magadino
is situated at the Lago Maggiore at the Riviera del Gambarogno. The first encounter with the Gambarogno gives one a completely wrong impression. Magadino, at the east end of the Lago Maggiore, features some stately buildings. They were built in 19th century, in a short time of prosperity when Magadino was the most important changing place from the steamboat to the horse and carriage and thus was the turntable of the whole north-south connections from the Lombardic low plains to beynd the Gotthard Pass. With the inauguration of the Gotthard railway in 1882, the short time of prosperity came to an end. The remnants are the precious, classical buildings such as the church San Carlo, on a plateau above the railway tracks, built by Giacomo Moraglia (who also designed the teatro sociale in Bellinzona) as well as some representative secular buildings catching the eye of a passer-by.
Magadino features a stately touristic infrastructure, making the guests feel agreeable.
