Situated amidst lush meadows
Lotzwil in the Oberaargau

Lotzwil is located in the Bernese Oberaargau. Embedded in the large valley of the Langete River and surrounded by woodlands and meadows, Lotzwil is one of those villages on the Bernese Plateau that are characterised by wealth and uprightness.

Lotzwil is mentioned for the first time in a document of the Trub Monastery dating from 1194. The church of the village was built in 1683 according to the plannings by Abraham Dünz. The carved pulpit and its beautiful cover as well as the Baroque baptismal font with its coat of arms and its carved lid, the table and the windows in the choir designed by R. Münger are well worth seeing. The four windows in the choir presenting the coats of arms of the community, the panes with the family arms and, to the south, the "Bernrych", the honorary coat of arms of the landvogt Willading as well as a sundial complete the picture.

In a competition of projects topicalising the preservation of natural surroundings - "Bärner Umwält - üsi Gsundheit" - the village won the first price with its ecological educational path. This path was inaugurated on the occasion of the 8th centenary celebration in Lotzwil.
