Part of the houses in Niederwald line up in close rows on a steep slope and this special construction offers a highly effective echelon formation of the gables. As though the village green were pushed to the edge of the densely built village, here, apart from a few utilitarian buildings, some stately mansions halfway enclose the square featuring the new Caesar-Ritz fountain. Who would associate the Ritz Hotel with a small village in the Goms called Niederwald? Still, the famous Caesar Ritz, whose name features noble hotels all over the world, was born in this place.
The St Theodul Parish Church dating from 1666 is well worth a visit. Johann Sigristen built the valuable altars and the pulpit around the year 1700. The baptismal font dating from 1671 is a showpiece created by the Lagger atelier in Reckingen. The central location of the village between cross-country ski runs and the skiing areas of Bellwald and Kühboden make Niederwald a small holiday village with a very special charm throughout the whole year.
