Oberwald, the gate to the Goms Region

If you´re coming from the north via the Grimsel Pass or from the west via the Furka Pass into the Valais, you will first follow the roaring Rhone River through a wild and rocky gorge-like valley and then, you will reach the first village in the Goms, Oberwald - you have reached the high-lying valley of the Goms Region.

The characteristically soft landscape in the valley spreads a calm and relaxing atmosphere and also the Rhone River gradually widens and becomes calmer in Oberwald.

Oberwald, therefore, is the ideal place for taking a rest from hectic every-day professional life. If you still fancy doing some sports, you will find a number of diverse sports activities at your disposal: apart from a skiing area, a toboggan run and a curling rink, enthusiastic winter sports people will also find a cross-country trail of 100km leading from Oberwald to Münster and to Niederwald through a magnificent unspoilt landscape, through the enchanting beauty of snow and rime.

In the summer season, you can go hiking, biking, swimming, rafting, climbing, etc. in a unique landscape, which is most beautiful in autumn when the gorgeous forests are bathed in red-golden colors.
