Geneva, the second-largest city in Switzerland, is situated beautifully at the shores of Lake Geneva, between the Jura and the Alps, and enjoys a very mild climate. Owing to its status as a center for international organisations and its university, the city has a very international character.
Even the shops in the town centre are proof to this: nowhere else in Switzerland can you find so many renowned watch boutiques and travel agencies on such little space. Moreover, Geneva is also an economic and social centre of Switzerland. The great research laboratory for particle physics CERN as well as one of the three international airports are located here.
Furthermore, Geneva is a well-known trade fair centre, the annual International Motor Show being the highlight. Outside the town, various hills in the surroundings are ideal for relaxing walks, and the area also offers excursions to the nearby Mt Salève or boat trips across the lake.
