Jenesien/San Genesio extends on the southern slope of the Tschögglberg/ Monzoccolo plateau
It extends between the Etschtal valley in the west, the basin of Bozen in the south, the Sarntal valley in the east and the Meran 2000 skiing area in the north.
The sunny valley is situated in the heart of the Etschtal valley, far from traffic at an altitude of nearly 1,100 m and the capital Bozen is only ten kilometers away.
The Salten is one of the most beautiful larch meadows in the Alpine region.
Thanks to its extensive meadows and pastures, dark coniferous forests and the Mediterranean vegetation, the Salten plateau (Latin "Saltus" = wood) with its highland landscape is especially charming. Excursions across the Salten with its rich mountain flora and the breathtaking panoramic view of the mountain ridges satisfy all keen mountaineers.
The Salten, attractive all year round, is ideal for easy as well as extended excursion with a low difference in altitude.
Jenesien/S. Genesio is the cradle of horse.
In Jenesien everywhere you look, you can´t fail the notice that this region is home to the Haflinger horses.
The Haflinger horse is a strongly-built, undemanding, and sure-footed mountain pony. Once it was used for the work on the farm but in the last 10 to 15 years, the situation has changed. Thanks to its good naturedness, the small size (maximal 1.50m), and its stability, it´s especially suitable for children.
In Jenesien horse riding is still allowed.
The Salto plateau is the ideal place to experience wonderful rides along numerous trails with friends. On request rides in horse-drawn carriages are organized.
From the Salten plateau you can enjoy the most stunning views of the Rosengarten mountain range. When the sun goes down behind the Salto forests, the peaks of the Dolomite mountains glow in a wonderful red, a really unforgettable experience.
