Located in a vast open basin, surrounded by forests and high peaks that create a particularly fascinating scenery,

Rhêmes-Notre-Dame is to be found at an altitude of 1725 metres within the National Park in the Gran Paradiso.
The parish church, in the town's main square, rebuilt in the 1700's, is dedicated to the Assunta: the bell tower dates from the fifteenth century and apparently has the loudest bells in Valle d'Aosta.
Down through the centuries, the village has held onto its typically rural architectural structure. On the second last Sunday in July, a typical Valle d'Aosta craft fair is held here.
The inhabitants of Rhêmes Valley have always been well known, as far back as early times, as seasonal emigrants for their skills as "Ramoneurs", otherwise known as, chimney ...

... sweepers: organised in small teams, they were a real corporation.

In the hamlet of Chanavey, there is an interesting Visitors Centre in the Park, used as an educational tool to promote awareness of the natural heritage in the Gran Paradiso's National Park. The centre is home to a permanent exhibition entitled "Welcome back bearded vulture!", the story of the extinction and return of the largest bird in Europe.
Thanks to its location, it is a great place to enjoy hobbies connected to riding, mountain bikes and excursions: in fact the Alta Via no. 2 road, that winds through Champorcher and Courmayeur can be found here.
In winter, skiers can enjoy enchanting routes for Nordic skiing and downhill slopes that wind through forests.
You can also practice Piolet-Traction here. This is a sport that foresees spectacular ice climbing on waterfalls with cramps and ice axe.
