Bevia is the administrative center of the Valle di Bresimo, the wild valley where the Barnes stream flows. The valley lies between Monte Pin (2,420 m), separating it from the Valle di Rumo, Cima Lac (2,431 m), separating it from the Lower Valle di Sole, and Cima delle Mandrie (2609 m) and Cima Tuatti (2701 m) separating it from the Valle di Rabbi. The area falls between Anaunia and the Val d´Ultimo, linked to the Merano and Venosta areas. This geographical location facilitated human settlement in prehistoric times and rapid links across the mountain passes to the nearby valleys were established via Passo Palù (2,412 m) to the Valle di Rabbi, Passo Val Clapa (2,296 m) to the Val d´Ultimo and Passo Binasia (2,296 m) to the Val di Rumo. In Bresimo lie the ruins of d´Altaguarda Castle, recently restored by the district Municipality and the Autonomous Province of Trento. It is an exceptionally panoramic spot, as its Italian name suggests. It stands on a spur on the eastern slopes of Monte Pin at 1,274 m and is one of the highest castles or fortified constructions in Trentino. It developed from a prehistoric defensive mound, became a Roman watchtower and was later used as a guarding castle.

Bresimo is not the name of a village, it is made up of various hamlets: Fontana, Bevia, Bagni and Baselga. Above Bevia lies the new village of Fontana whose old center was destroyed by a raging fire which broke out on 23rd November 1954.
