once consisting of dormitories for friars and pilgrims, with barn and stables, kitchen facilities, warehouse and church. The tower was used to defend this complex of buildings that stood isolated and therefore exposed to all of the period´s dangers, such as thieves, barbarian incursions and fire. Early in the 14th century, however, the hospice was suppressed as such, and the building became a property of the episcopal seminary of Trento. As often happened in the 19th century, the buildings were demolished to give way to new structures, all except for the tower that was spared and transformed into a belfry, the one we see detached from the main building of the large church. The tall stone structure tapers upwards, highlighting the primitive and small entrance door that is now above the street level.
