Holidays Eastern Styria

Active nature exploration

If you are looking for unspoilt landscapes and romantic moments you shouldn't miss out on a visit to East Styria – also known as "Austria's green garden". Both nature adventures and culinary experiences of a very special kind await you here in summer and winter alike. The region boasts a wide range of wonderful herb trails, castle gardens, apple routes and young wine trails nestling right at the heart of the scenic vineyards in East Styria. Activity fans enjoy walking from one "Buschenschank" tavern to the next, where young wine and local specialties are served, or head for the Kneipp trail. East Styria stands for rest and relaxation amid untouched nature. Spend unforgettable holidays in an area of outstanding beauty with a huge number of interesting excursion sites and places worth visiting, among them the Herberstein animal world or the Katerloch stalactite cave. Sports aficionados are fond of the countless multi-day cycle and bike tours.

Shady forests and hikers' heaven

Over many years a renowned Austrian poet, Peter Rosegger, has described the flower-strewn Joglland region. The writer's birthplace and a special exhibition in St. Kathrein am Hauenstein give visitors an insight into the eventful life of Rosegger. Walkers will find a true hiking paradise amid the scenic Almenland nature park throughout the summer months: both leisurely trails and highly challenging routes await you here – like the quite demanding Passeileralm loop trail with wonderful Alpine orchids in full bloom.

Families can explore the moor theme trail and its varied fauna and flora in one of Austria's last highland moors in the dwarf pine zone. Quaint Latschenhütte mountain inn makes a perfect spot for a well-deserved rest stop and a hearty snack platter. Railway fans can make their childhood dreams come true on the Feistritztalbahn line where visitors spend a full day together with the steam engine driver, followed by a hearty egg meal prepared on the boiler.
