Scenic Karwendel Silver Region
The mighty Karwendel mountain massif can be found in the Northern Limestone Alps, most of the area is located in Tirol – only a small part belongs to Bavaria. The whole mountain range comprises 125 summits and peaks beyond 2000 meters above sea level, stretching from west towards east. It's not surprising that the Karwendel Silver Region ranks among the hot spots for hiking aficionados and winter sport fans. The holiday region boasts eleven scenic Tirolean villages in the surroundings of Schwaz, embedded in the majestic mountains of Karwendel and the gentle Tux Alpine foothills. In the surroundings of Schwaz you will find a huge number of cultural attractions and places worth-seeing, for example the Silver Mine or Tratzberg Castle in Jenbach.
Great winter fun: skis, sleds and snowshoes

A holiday amidst the highly romantic winter wonderland invites nature fans to fabulous winter walking and snowshoe hiking tours. Furthermore, the region has some of the finest ski touring and ski mountaineering destinations (Großer Gilfert in Weerberg). Tobogganing fans can choose from 17 family-friendly toboggan runs in the immediate surroundings: one of the most scenic natural runs can be found in Gallzein, a small and cozy village in the Alpine foothills. The sled trail of Hinterriss and the three kilometer long track of Vomp, floodlit until midnight, guarantee fun-filled hours with friends and family. Alpine skiers head for the Kellerjoch ski area located at 1900 meters above sea level, with superb black, red and blue ski runs suitable for both families and ambitious sportsmen.
