Skiing and Hiking at Hochkönig

The little municipality of Maria Alm, which is home to 2,000 inhabitants, is located in the Hochkönig in Pinzgau area in the Salzburger Land surrounded by the Steinernes Meer and the Hochkönig mountains. Maria Alm offers with its two traditional mountain villages of Hintermoos and Hinterthal great recreation close to nature and away from touristic hotspots in summer and winter alike. Hikers, climbers and bikers discover the mountains in summer, such as the 2,117 m high Hundstein mountain. It is the highest grass mountain in Europe that can be accessed by bike. In winter, Maria Alm and the Hochkönig skiing area with its 120 km of perfectly groomed slopes attract many skiers and snowboarders. The skiing area is at the same time part of the Ski amadé ski resort, the largest inter-connected ski resort in Austria. Furthermore, you should not miss the “Königstour” when on holidays in Maria – it is one of the most beautiful ski tours in the Alps.

Ultimate Snow Pleasures

Free and wide – these two adjectives characterise the Hochkönig skiing area with snow guarantee. A total of 33 modern lifts, 120 km of sunny slopes and impressive mountain scenery make this ski resort a paradise in white. And if Mother Hulda really needs a break, then hundreds of snow-making facilities do her job. The “Königstour” is a very special adventure – one of the most beautiful ski tours in the Alps between Maria Alm, Mühlbach and Dienten. Families and relaxed skiers will find spectacular views and unique moments on 32 km of slopes. Freestylers and snowboarders will also like the Hochkönig area – this is due to the three fun parks: The Maria Alm Snow Park, the Blue Tomato Kings Park Mühlpark and the Livingroom Snow Park in Mühlbach. If you want to enjoy your holidays in Maria Alm with all its facets, then great moments also off the slopes await you: There is a 30-km-long cross-country skiing network in Maria Alm, but also plenty of possibilities for winter hiking tours, tobogganing, ice-curing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, geo caching, etc.
